Sailing to Canada via the San Juan Islands

Three week sailing adventure to Canada - the first day on board

May 24th, 2019

I have been packed for days I am so excited.

We are still getting packages for the trip like sailing gloves, a hat with a chinstrap and off-shore life jackets.

At the time of my first writing this, there were bank trips and groceries still, but we were finally at the boat by 11 pm. The idea was to have a good sleep before taking off early in the morning but we were asleep by 1 and had to wake at 3:30 for departure at 3:45 am. Sleepy but excited we were off!

First bridge lift. No problems, though there were a surprisingly large amount of traffic crossing our path at that hour, who needed to stop where they were to let us pass in the night. There were a few expletives said by other boaters.

Lisa and Jason slept last evening in the cockpit and are going to sleep for their week on the boat, there or on deck, to be close to nature. Eric and I are in the v-berth, Chris is on the oh shit sailing single bed and Jon is on the vast the dining area. Ken, of course, is in the main cabin as Captain and owner of this fine sailing vessel.  If you want to read about the whole adventure, click below.

Yeah, that happened

When I was at UNC-CH, my friends and I would take one day out of the week to each share something we created poetry, writing, acting, song, and music or read us something they found interesting that they learned in class, or celebrate a success. I appreciated these times so much as it was possibly the first place I could really learn how to laugh at myself. That skill would have done me well had I had it back in high school. The power of the pen, as it were, changes lives. At some point in my life journey, I began hearing stories of powerful women and girls. I still will pick an action flick with a fierce female lead over any other choice. I am still thirsty for these stories having only really seen an explosion of work only in the last 15 to 20 years.
